A group protesting President Donald Trump's plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) held a candlelit vigil outside of the home of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner on Monday night.

The DACA program, enacted by the Obama administration, gives work permits to immigrants who came to the United States illegally as children. DACA protects nearly 800,000 people, often called "Dreamers."

The protesters came from a number of states to ask the first daughter and her husband, the senior advisor to the president, to exercise their influence on the matter.

Protests also occurred in cities across the United States including Los Angeles, Memphis and Washington, DC.

A number of prominent figures joined in the chorus of support for DACA. Apple CEO Tim Cook took to Twitter, stating that 250 Apple employees are "Dreamers" and deserve respect as equals.

Trump will delay execution of the decision for six months in order to allow congress to find an alternative, two sources told Reuters.

The president's decision to scrap the program throws into question the fate of many of these men and women. It would leave them without a way to renew their work visas, thus removing them from the United States work force.
