New immigrants bond with Israel's landscape

A group of about thirty Olim went on a day-trip with Nefesh B’Nefesh and KKL-JNF to Hanita Forest and the Keshet Cave in the northern Israel.

The activities took place in the framework of cooperative efforts between KKL-JNF and other organizations with Nefesh B'Nefesh, to support the successful absorption of new immigrants from the USA, Canada and Britain in Israel.

This was a great opportunity for Olim (immigrants to Israel) both veteran and new to make new friends, fall in love with Israel’s landscape and hear all about KKL-JNF’s work.

Participating in the excursion was 26-year-old Jacob Schiansky, who, along with his 8-year-old daughter, Aleayah, made Aliyah (immigration to Israel) from North Carolina only two months ago. In the US, he worked for Masa Israel Journey and Birthright Israel, until he decided it was time for him to not just talk the talk, but also walk the walk and make Aliyah. “I wanted a fresh start and to connect to my roots”, he explains, “I love Israel, it’s beautiful; people here are so eager to help, and I feel at home here”.

Roni Gilbert, Aliyah advisor at Nefesh B’Nefesh, talked about the organization’s activities: “We are there for the Olim from the very first stage, when they just start deliberating whether or not to make Aliyah, until several years after their Aliyah. We have all kinds of activities, such as this trip, for example. These trips are very important to us, because they help create a supportive community and make the Olim feel more connected to the land”.

Nefesh B’Nefesh is an organization that seeks to help Jews from the US, Canada and England make Aliyah successfully. Since its establishment in 2002, it has helped more than 50,000 Olim make Aliyah. The organization helps remove the various financial, professional, logistic and social obstacles which Olim from English speaking countries face. Nefesh B’Nefesh staff help the Olim in everything related to their communications with government agencies, as well as in employment, education, support for lone soldiers and extra assistance to people who are interested in living in the Negev and Galilee.
